Celebrate the Lunar New Year island style. Join us on the closing weekend of the exhibition “Bingata! Only in Okinawa” for an all-ages festival that celebrates the traditions of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Enjoy traditional dance and karate demonstrations; create your own bingata pattern; and go fishing in the islands’ tropical reefs.

Performances begin at 1pm

1-hour ‘bingata’ workshops are offered for all ages on Saturday at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm

2-hour bingata workshops are offered on Sunday for adults at 11am and 2pm. Free, but reservations are required. Visit museum.gwu.edu/okinawa-new-year to register.

Presented in partnership with Okinawa Kai of Washington, D.C., and the Okinawa Prefectural Government. Free; no reservations required.
