“CELEBRATING LIBERTY!”
CDVN & VACF SUCCESSFULLY PARTICIPATE IN
THE NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE 2018
WASHINGTON, DC (July 17, 2019) The President of Vietnamese Americans Celebrating Freedom (VACF), Allison Le (aka Le Anh Vy) remarked: “What a spectacular presentation! Over 75 performers and volunteers participated in this year’s July 4th parade! What a great demonstration of Vietnamese American heritage as we celebrate America’s 242nd birthday in front of 400,000 spectators in Washington, DC!”
Under a blazing sun with temperatures and heat index of 105 degrees; VACF, in partnership with the Vietnamese American Community of the Washington DC Metropolitan area (CDVN) produced a colorful and patriotic Vietnamese American presentation. The group included ladies from Hoi Thu Duc and CDVN holding the lead banner, to the former RVN veterans marching in their uniforms, to the elite fan team, to the balloon holders; everyone was smiling and proud be to in this parade!
VACF & CDVN were proud to host Giao Su Kim-Oanh Nguyen as the Guest of Honor. Giao Su Kim Oanh is a community treasure! In addition to teaching traditional Vietnamese musical instruments, dance, and the performing arts; she is a tireless contributor to the thousands of Vietnamese cultural events produced in the Washington DC metro area. Giao Su Kim Oanh has and continues to inspire and lead the community in preserving the Vietnamese culture and arts.
The float, built by Shaw Parades, featured the Statute of Liberty and a giant eagle leading the float from the front: both are America’s symbols of strength and freedom. This year the float featured Ms. VACF Nhut Pho and the VACF court which included: Dr. Monica Dinh, Ms. Aria Pham, Ms. Cam-Vy Nguyen, and Ms. Dana Hudson. These ladies are accomplished professionals in their respective fields of cybersecurity, orthodontics, journalism, government contacting, and consulting. They represent the next generation of leaders in our community.
The parade unit also featured over thirty balloon volunteers who assisted the parade organizer by walking and keeping the majestic eagle afloat for four hours in the hot sun. Volunteers ranged in age 13-75; some walked with their parents and even a few grandparents! Our community is now over three generations strong in the DC area.
VACF is thankful for the corporate and community sponsors to include: Pho 75, Dupont Jewelry, Lee’s Sandwiches, and PSK Creative. VACF is grateful for continuing media coverage from SBTN, VIETV, and VPTV.
Ms. Le remarked, “We are thankful for the many individual, group, and corporate contributions made by our wonderful Vietnamese American Community from all over the country! We are only as strong as our community’s active support. This is our 27th year performing in this historic annual event! With CDVN’s leadership and active engagement, the Republic of Viet Nam flag continues to proudly wave in the National Independence Day Parade!”
