1. Air Show – The fascinating and highly entertaining air show returns to Andrews Air Force Base in September of 2015 after being cancelled for the past few years. The US Air Force Thunderbirds perform fast-paced aerobatic maneuvers of two, four, and six planes flying in formation. The Special Operations “Para-Commandos” Parachute Team will also perform with a few additional aerial and ground attractions. Some of the highlights of this show include the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team, heritage flights with the P-51 Mustangs, and over 30 aircraft from several branches of the armed forces. This is a free event, open to the public, and families are encouraged to attend.

Each year the festival grows and 2015 is no exception. September 19th will bring more than 500 artists and performers to 14 stages as well as educational events, regional and local cuisine, and shopping. More than 150 food trucks, vendors, and restaurants are preparing to keep attendees well fed. Families are encouraged to attend and a family zone will be available with entertainment and a fitness area.

Book Festival – A fantastic literary event spanning the week of September 27th through October 4th, the Fall for the Book Festival celebrates literature and the arts with events throughout the capital region. Tommy Middaugh of Travel To Go notes that events are hosted at local libraries throughout Virginia, DC and Maryland as well as at George Mason University.
