Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski will visit Vietnam from May 9-10, when he will engage with government officials and local civil society representatives.
Assistant Secretary Malinowski will reiterate the importance of Vietnam’s making additional progress on human rights to furthering U.S.-Vietnam bilateral ties. Among other things, he will urge Vietnam to release political prisoners without condition and encourage further reforms that will help to make Vietnam’s laws consistent with its international human rights obligations.
