Modified Holiday Schedule for Select District Services

Thursday, November 22 – Friday, November 23
(Washington, DC) – The District of Columbia government offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 22, 2018 and Friday, November 23, 2018. Below is information regarding critical, on-going District operations for these days.
The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will suspend sanitation services on Thursday, November 22, and will resume services on Friday, November 23. Parking enforcement will be suspended on both Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. Other DPW service changes include:
Thursday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to Friday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection services on Thursdays. Friday trash and recycling collections will “slide” to Saturday for those who typically receive trash and recycling collection services on Fridays.
The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed Thursday, November 22 and will reopen on Friday, November 23.
Streetcar parking enforcement is daily, including weekends and holidays (e.g., Thanksgiving), along H Street and Benning Road NE, between 3rd Street and Oklahoma Avenue NE. On Sundays and holidays, streetcar parking enforcement is between 8 am and 11 pm. Enforcement on Mondays – Thursdays is 6 am to midnight; and on Fridays and Saturdays, enforcement runs between 6 am and 2 am. Normal enforcement citywide of other parking violations resumes Saturday, November 24.
All DC Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) locations will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. Regular business hours will resume on Saturday, November 24. All scheduled ticket hearings, road test appointments, and inspection appointments on Friday, November 23 will be rescheduled and customers will be notified by either mail or email.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has made the following service changes listed below:
DDOT will not apply reversible lane operations on Thursday, November 22. Reversible lane operations will resume on Friday, November 23.
All work will be suspended in public space Wednesday, November 21 at noon through Thursday, November 22. Work can resume in public space on Friday, November 23.
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) centers and indoor aquatic facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. Facilities will reopen on Saturday, November 24.
All grass fields are now closed for the winter season until Saturday, March 16, 2019.
All synthetic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, and basketball courts will be open.
All previously-permitted events will take place as scheduled.
All DC Public Library (DCPL) locations will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23 and will reopen on Saturday, November 24.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) has made the following service changes regarding shelters:
The Adams Place Day Center is closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23. The Center will open overnight (7 pm – 7 am) for women if a hypothermia alert is activated.
The DHS Call Center will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23.
All DHS-ESA Service Centers will be closed on Thursday, November 22 and Friday, November 23.
Seasonal Shelters will be open overnight (7 pm – 7 am) for any night a hypothermia alert is called.
