Câu lạc bộ Báo chí Quốc gia Hoa Kỳ lên án việc Việt Nam bỏ tù nhà báo Trương Huy San

Mike Balsamo (Chủ tịch Câu lạc bộ Báo chí Quốc gia Hoa Kỳ) hôm nay đưa ra tuyên bố sau sau khi nhà báo Việt Nam Trương Huy San bị kết án 30 tháng tù:
“Bỏ tù một nhà báo vì nói lên sự thật là một cuộc tấn công vào tự do báo chí ở khắp mọi nơi. Việt Nam phải trả tự do cho Trương Huy Sản ngay lập tức và vô điều kiện.
Chính phủ Việt Nam đã mất nhiều năm cố gắng bịt miệng ông. Khi họ sa thải anh khỏi giới truyền thông nhà nước, anh vẫn tiếp tục đưa tin. Khi họ đóng cửa blog độc lập của anh, anh vẫn tiếp tục viết. Khi tất cả những gì anh còn lại là Facebook, họ đã tống anh vào tù. Đây không phải là về công lý—mà là về sự kiểm duyệt và sự sợ hãi.
Quyền tự do ngôn luận không phải là một đặc ân mà là quyền của con người. Các nhà lãnh đạo Việt Nam đang vi phạm luật pháp quốc tế và nhân phẩm của chính người dân nước mình bằng cách hình sự hóa báo chí độc lập. Vụ án này là một phần của một mô hình đáng lo ngại, bao gồm cả việc bỏ tù bất công nhà báo Đài Tiếng nói Hoa Kỳ Phạm Chí Dũng, người đã phải ngồi tù 5 năm. Cả hai người đều phải được trả tự do.
Trương Huy Sang hay còn được biết đến với bút danh Huy Đức.Trương Huy Sang bị bắt vào tháng 6 năm 2024. Trương Huy Sang là một nhà báo và tác giả được kính trọng. Ông là cựu nghiên cứu sinh Nieman tại Đại học Harvard (2012) và là tác giả của The Winning Side. The Winning Side àl một cuốn sách có ảnh hưởng về Việt Nam thời hậu chiến.
National Press Club Condemns Vietnam’s Jailing of Journalist Truong Huy San
WASHINGTON, Feb. 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — National Press Club President Mike Balsamo today released the following statement after Vietnamese journalist Truong Huy San was sentenced to 30 months in prison:
“Jailing a journalist for speaking the truth is an attack on press freedom everywhere. Vietnam must release Truong Huy San immediately and unconditionally.
The government of Vietnam has spent years trying to silence him. When they fired him from state media, he kept reporting. When they shut down his independent blog, he kept writing. When all he had left was Facebook, they threw him in prison. This is not about justice—it is about censorship and fear.
The right to free expression is not a privilege, it is a human right. Vietnam’s leaders are violating international law and their own people’s dignity by criminalizing independent journalism. This case is part of a disturbing pattern, including the unjust imprisonment of Voice of America journalist Pham Chi Dung, who has already spent five years behind bars. Both men must be freed.”
Truong, who writes under the pen name Huy Doc, was arrested in June 2024. A respected journalist and author, he is a former Nieman Fellow at Harvard University (2012) and the author of The Winning Side, an influential book on post-war Vietnam.
