Christmas Day-Tuesday, December 25, 2018 & New Year’s Day-Tuesday, January 1, 2019
The District of Columbia government offices will be closed on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25, 2018 and New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Below is information regarding critical, on-going District operations for these days.
The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will suspend sanitation services on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019, with services resuming the day after. Parking enforcement will be suspended on both December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019. Other DPW service changes include:
Trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of both weeks. This applies to both once-a-week and twice-a-week collection neighborhoods.
The Fort Totten and Benning Road transfer stations will be closed on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019, reopening the following day.
Leaf collections will not be made on either holiday.
There will be no parking enforcement on December 25, 2018. There will be Streetcar parking enforcement on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2018, between the hours of 8 am and 2 am, and on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2019, between the hours of 8 am and 10 pm.
All DC Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) locations will be closed on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019. Regular business hours will resume on the following days, December 26, 2018 and January 2, 2019. All DC DMV locations open one hour later on Wednesdays.
Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and “Know Before You Go” for services requiring an in-person visit to a Service Center as customer volume is high before and after a holiday closing.
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has made the following service changes listed below:
DDOT will not apply reversible lane operations on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019. Reversible lane operations will resume on December 26, 2018 and January 2, 2019.
Work will be suspended in the District from 12 pm, December 24, 2018 through December 25, 2018; and from 12 pm, December 31 through January 1, 2019. Lane closures and work zones will not be allowed unless emergency work is being performed. This includes manhole access and construction-related deliveries.
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) centers and indoor aquatic facilities will be closed on December 25, 2018, and January 1, 2019. Facilities will reopen on December 26, 2018 and January 2, 2019.
All grass fields are now closed for the winter season until Saturday, March 16, 2019.
All synthetic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts and basketball courts will be open on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019.
All previously-permitted events on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019 will take place as scheduled.
All DC Public Library (DCPL) locations will be closed on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019. DCPL hours for other days include:
Monday, December 24, 2018: Open from 9:30 am – 1 pm
Monday, December 31, 2018: Open from 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
The Department of Human Services (DHS) has made the following service changes regarding shelters:
The Adams Place Day Center will be closed on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019.
The DHS Call Center will be closed on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019.
All DHS-ESA Service Centers will be closed on December 25, 2018 and January 1, 2019.
Hypothermia Shelters will be open overnight (7 pm-7 am) for any night a hypothermia alert is called.
